“Food prices to double by 2030, Oxfam warns”

“After decades of steady decline in the number of hungry people around the world, the numbers are rapidly increasing as demand outpaces food production. The average growth rate in agricultural yields has almost halved since 1990 and is set to decline to a fraction of 1% in the next decade.”

I hate to be “that guy”, and appear as a militant vegetarian/vegan, but the numbers show that if a significant number of people gave up meat, this could at least be alleviated a little. Over 20 pounds of grain go towards producing 1 pound of beef, food & land that could be used much more productively in terms of the amount of edible food. I don’t like how the media pander to the meat industries wishes, the non-meat consumption solution to this argument could easily have been fit into this article, but it’s pretty much a no go for major media outlets. Money talks.
